The Challenge
Healthcare facilities face chronic understaffing and scheduling complexity. Hospitals, clinics, and nursing homes needed a unified system to manage shift scheduling across multiple facilities, comply with CMS regulations, and reduce dependency on expensive staffing agencies. Schedulers were juggling spreadsheets per facility with no visibility into which nearby location had spare staff on a given shift, so understaffed shifts got filled by calling an agency at premium rates even when a qualified employee at a sister facility was available and willing to pick up the shift.
The Solution
Built a comprehensive workforce management platform using Next.js and Node.js. Implemented AI-powered scheduling that automatically optimizes shift assignments based on staff availability, qualifications, and facility needs, ranking internal cross-facility candidates ahead of agency staff whenever coverage allows. Created executive dashboards with real-time staffing insights, cross-facility staff pooling to share resources between locations, and partner agency integration for overflow staffing when internal pooling can't cover a gap. Added CMS compliance reporting that generates audit-ready documentation automatically instead of requiring manual compilation, plus a mobile app so healthcare workers can view and pick up shifts from their phones.
